Getting started
How do I set Doomblob up?
Name your blob and pick a colour, allow Screen Time access, choose the one app you want to use less, and pick a difficulty. Then, if you like, add up to two good apps, and allow Apple Health and notifications. From then on your blob loses health for every minute you spend in the app you picked.
Which permissions does it ask for, and why?
- Screen Time - to count minutes in the app you picked. Required; the game cannot work without it.
- Apple Health - to see when you finish a challenge. Read-only. Without it there are no challenges to complete.
- Notifications - for challenge wins, one daily nudge and the ghost alert. Optional.
- Tracking - asked by the ad banner in the free version. Optional; declining changes nothing in the game.
- Photos - only when you save your share card. Optional.
Tracking your app
Doomblob is not counting my minutes.
Open Doomblob. If tracking has stopped, a warning appears at the top of Home and Settings: tap it, allow Screen Time access if asked, and tracking restarts. Also check that Settings → Screen Time → App & Website Activity is turned on for your iPhone. Minutes are counted from that point on, not for time already spent.
How do I change the app I'm battling?
Go to Settings → Swap app in Doomblob and pick another one. The change applies straight away.
How do the difficulty levels work?
- Normal - each minute costs 2 health, or 5 shield while the shield holds. A full blob lasts 50 minutes without shield.
- Hard - 5 health or 10 shield a minute. A full blob lasts 20 minutes.
- Extreme - 10 health or 20 shield a minute. A full blob lasts 10 minutes.
Change it in Settings → Difficulty. The new level starts at the next 00:00, so a hard day cannot be made easier halfway through.
Can I stop the reminder while I'm in my app?
Yes. Settings → Notifications → Usage nudge lets you choose 5, 10, 20 or 60 minutes, or turn it off. It is sent at most once a day.
Challenges and shield
A challenge is not completing even though I did it
Pull down on the Challenges screen to check Apple Health straight away. Then open Settings → Health → Data Access & Devices → Doomblob and make sure the data type is allowed.
Why is a watch challenge slow to update?
Challenges marked with an asterisk use data from a watch or tracker. Those devices send data to Apple Health on their own schedule, so progress can arrive minutes or hours after you earned it. Opening the device's own app usually speeds the sync up.
What are good apps?
Up to two apps you want to spend time in, such as a reading or meditation app. Each minute in them adds shield - 2 a minute on Normal, 1.5 on Hard and 1 on Extreme - for the first 60 minutes a day. Set them in Settings → Good apps. The app you are battling cannot be a good app.
Can I bring my blob back before midnight?
No. A ghost blob respawns at 00:00 on your iPhone clock with full health and a new set of challenges. There is no purchase or setting that brings it back sooner.
Purchases
I paid to remove ads but the banner is back
Open Doomblob, go to Settings and tap Restore purchases. Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple Account that made the purchase. Restoring is free and works on any of your devices.
Refunds
In-app purchases are handled by Apple, so refunds go through them. Visit reportaproblem.apple.com, sign in, and pick the purchase. If Apple turns you down and you think that's wrong, write to us and we'll see what we can do.
Privacy and data
Can I move my blob to a new iPhone?
Not yet. Doomblob stores everything on the device and has no account, so a new iPhone or a reinstall starts a fresh blob. Your remove-ads purchase can be restored for free.
Where is my data?
On your iPhone and nowhere else. There are no accounts, and Screen Time and Apple Health data are never uploaded - not to us, not to anyone. The full detail is in our Privacy Policy.
Requirements
Doomblob works with iPhone. The App Store listing shows the current minimum software version.
